North Carolina governor Pat McCrory would like to let you think he’s a moderate, bipartisan Republican. But we North Carolina Kossacks know otherwise. As if we needed any more proof, McCrory has gone on record as saying that he will fully support Donald Trump if he wins the Republican nomination.
Through a spokesman, McCrory said on Wednesday that “the process should work on its own,” so he is not willing to endorse anyone in the March 15 primary. However, he will support whoever wins the nomination—even if it’s the Donald. Just in case he didn’t make himself clear, McCrory himself reiterated it on Time Warner Cable News later that night.
I’m reminded of how Leo Amery called for someone to “speak for England” as Germany invaded Poland. Well, McCrory forgot that while he is the nominal leader of the North Carolina GOP, he is also governor of ALL of North Carolina. He had a chance to take a stand against a man who has proven himself time and again to be unfit for office—and blew it eight ways to Sunday.
If McCrory is willing at this point to even consider supporting a guy who thinks anything less than an unequivocal denunciation of racism is acceptable, plasters a private cell phone number on social media, condones thuggish behavior from his supporters, and mocks the disabled, then we really have to question whether McCrory himself is fit for office.
But we have a chance to make McCrory pay dearly for even thinking about standing with Trump. He apparently forgot that he faces a dogfight for reelection against Democratic state attorney general Roy Cooper. Click here to donate.
